[Also in Group XXVIII] A filter comprising a filter body exchangeably arranged in a housing is characterized in that there is provided to hold the filter body fast on its seat a screw member which extends through a screw-threaded aperture in an intermediate bottom of the filter housing and through the bottom of the housing, and which has at its other end a screw-thread capable of fitting into the above screw-threaded aperture. A filter body 12, Fig. 1, comprises a double-walled cylinder of expanded metal, wire gauze or the like covered with filter cloth or the like, an impervious bottom 11 extended outwards as a ring 10 and an internally-threaded nut 15 secured to the bottom. It is held against a projection 6 forming part of an inner wall 2 of the filter casing (with an intermediate packing 9) by a screw member 13, the securing part 14 of which extends through an aperture 8 in an intermediate bottom 7 without obturating it. One of two flanges 16 on the member 13 engages, through a packing 17, a hole 18 in the outer casing 1 to close it. The filtrate space, consisting of the region between the cylinder walls 12 and that above the intermediate bottom 7, communicates through the aperture 8 with a filtrate discharge tube 4. When the filter body 12 is to be removed the member 13 is unscrewed from the nut 15, removed, inverted and replaced, whereupon a thread 20, now at the upper end of the member, engages in and closes the aperture 8, Fig. 2. The filter body 12, if stuck on its seat by, e.g. crystalline deposits, may be lifted therefrom by inserting a rod 22 in the bore of the member 13 and forcing it upwards by a cap 23 engaging the thread 14 and rotated by a hand lever 24. In place of the double cylinder 12 there may be provided on the bottom 11 a series of flat or curved double walls, the cavities of which open into the space below the bottom 11. A heating or cooling medium may be passed through the space 5 between the casings 1 and 2.
