Abstract

756,089. Cabin and deck lights. STEWART, I. M. March 17, 1955 [March 29, 1954], No. 9046/54. Class 113. [Also in Group X] A lighting installation for a ship includes a ceiling proper 1, Fig. 1, such as an overhead deck, a false ceiling 2 formed by a series of horizontal sheets 3 of translucent material suspended from the structure 1, and illuminating means such as strip lamps 21 located between the ceilings 1 and 2. As shown, each sheet 3 is supported by telescopic tracks 4, Fig. 2, each of which consists of a bar 5 having a central portion 5b of inverted T-section and end portions 6a of I-section, a second bar 6 of I-section aligned with bar 5 and a pair of equispaced bars 7, 8 of inverted L-section which are engaged by connecting piece 9 so as to slide along the bar 5, 6. A sleeve 10 slidably mounted on the lower flanges of bar 5, 6 masks the track 4 from below and has a pin 11 to locate an adjoining sleeve. The tracks 4 are fitted by brackets 12 to supports 13 secured to opposed walls 13a, the tracks 4 adjacent to a wall being secured thereto by a bracket 19<SP>1</SP>. Each track 4 is suspended from the structure 1 by one or more straps consisting of two L-shaped portions 14, 15, which are interconnected at their ribbed ends 16 through slots 17. The tracks 4 are spaced apart by tubular rods 18 having slotted ends which engage the lower portions 16 of straps 14. A draft shield 20, pivoted at one end to each bar 5, may be swung downwardly when the sheet 3 has been unrolled and is in position on the tracks 4, to prevent displacement of the sheet.
