755,637. Reverse gear. LIGHTBURN & SON, Ltd., J. W., and BARKER, J. Jan. 5, 1955 [Jan. 20, 1954], No. 1756/54. Class 80(2) Reverse gear, particularly automatic for laundry wash-machines, comprises a double friction cone clutch member 16 fast on an axially movable output shaft 13 to either end 39, 40 of which hydraulic pressure is applied to shift the clutch selectively into engagement with axially fixed driving clutch cones 21, 22, rotated in opposite directions by an input shaft 25 through toothed and chain pairs 27, 24; 28, 23, or all toothed or all chain gears (including jockeys). The output shaft 13 drives the load 80 through a reducing spur pair 82. The input shaft 25 is chain driven through a sprocket 31 by a motor mounted above the casing, which also drives a pump supplying clutch-actuating pressure to the shaft ends 39, 40 through a three-way valve 47 which, for automatic reverse, is intermittently changed over by a two-piece adjustable cam 69, 70 continuously driven by the input shaft 25 through worm and double spur reducing gear 60 &c. (Fig. 3, not shown). The valve passes through an intermediate neutral range where it exhausts pressure at 57. A pressure gauge and relief-valve are provided. Inching and braking may also be provided.
