Abstract

1,265,407. Gear pumps. H. B. BOUNSALL. May 13, 1970 [June 26, 1969], No.32320/69. Heading F1F. A gear pump particularly for use in a hydraulic variable speed gear transmission, comprises an axially-fixed driven gear 3 co-operable with an axially-movable finger assembly 3A and an axiallymovable idler gear 2 co-operable with a stationary finger assembly 2A. The idler gear 2 and finger assembly 3A are mounted on a control platform 4 axially movable by a control rod to control the axial lengths of the gears which are in mesh and hence pump output. The fingers on the finger assembly slide between the gear teeth and preferably in the maximum output position shown in the figure the gear teeth and fingers are never completely out of engagement to ensure smooth working in a gear changing operation.
