Abstract
755,615. Capacitors. BRITISH DIELECTRIC RESEARCH, Ltd. Aug. 31, 1954 [Sept. 1, 1953], No. 24149/53. Class 37. A roll-type capacitor comprises a metal foil 1 which has a dielectric coating 2 on both sides thereof and is wound up with an insulating strip 4 having a metal coating 5 on both sides, one edge of the insulating strip projecting beyond the metal foil and being folded over twice to produce a thickened edge which closes the gap between adjacent turns of the strip and also provides an outer surface 6 to which terminal connection may be made. Conducting metallized layers 3 serving as one electrode of the capacitor may be provided on the outer surfaces of the dielectric coatings 2. Alternatively the metal layers 3 as shown need not be provided, in which case the metal coatings 5 serve as one electrode. The dielectric layer 2 may comprise an oxide or a varnish coating and the dielectric strip 4 may consist of polystyrene or paper. Terminal connections may be made with the surface 6 by spraying metal. Connection is made with the foil 1, serving as the other electrode, by soldering to the end remote from the folded-over edge of the strip 4, this end being left uncovered by the dielectric coating 2.
