Abstract
712,559. Electric capacitors. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. June 16, 1952, [June 16, 1951.] No. 15153/52. Class 37. Relates to roll type condensers wherein the condenser strip comprises (a) a metallic carrier electrode which may consist of aluminium foil (b) varnish dielectric deposited on the carrier electrode metal (c) aluminium deposited on the varnish and forming the counter electrode (d) constructional features according to which as shown the counter electrode coating 3 extends over the varnish layer 2 on one edge of the condenser strip but terminates short of the other edge. The constructional features (d) are disclosed in Specifications 677,489 and 696,423. It is difficult in such condensers to apply low melting point contact layers on aluminium end faces due to oxide film formation and according to the invention the aluminium counter electrode end face is covered with a layer of copper or copper alloy 5. The embodiment utilizes a carrier electrode i of aluminium foil therefore the carrier electrode end face is also covered with a layer of copper or copper alloy 4. The lead-in strips 8, 9 are soldered to tin or other low melting point layers 6, 7 superimposed on the copper or copper alloy layers 4, 5. These end layers 6, 7 may be thickened as at 10, 11 about the lead-in strips 8, 9. The copper or copper alloy layers may be applied with the aid of supersonic vibration.
