Abstract

754,650. Ammunition cartridge cases. RINGDAL, L. Dec. 30, 1954 [Dec. 30, 1953], No 37690/54. Class 9(1) A cartridge case comprising a base member 1 and a tubular member 2. preferably of aluminium, has an outer cover.3 of a resilient synthetic plastic material. The cover 3 may be a polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride. The member 1 has an external flange 5 to engage a cartridge ejector and a flange 6 to engage a groove 14 in the cover 3. Corrugations in the inner surface of the ring 1 engage a part 8 of the member 2 which has a reduced diameter. The base of the tube 3 is recessed to house a percussion cap and an anvil 11 extends from the base wall, which is also provided with flash passages 12. The ring 1, which is preferably of steel, may be turned on a lathe. The end of a drawn aluminium tube is then introduced into the ring and a plunger is inserted in the tube, while a second plunger is pressed into the ring to form the anvil and flash passages and to force the tube into the grooves of the ring 1. A percussion cap is then placed in position and the tube 2 filled with propellant. The case 3 is then pressed over the tube 2 until the flange 6 engages the groove 14.
