Abstract

754,491. Flexible tubes. COMPOFLEX CO., Ltd., and MOSELEY, J. April 7, 1955 May 27, 1954], No. 15697/54. Class 99(2). In an armoured hose for conveying petrol, oil, acid or liquid foodstuffs, a layer of supported polyvinyl chloride, i.e., cloth coated on one or both sides with a polyvinyl chloride composition, is bonded to each side of at least one layer of synthetic rubber, e.g. Hycar (Registered Trade Mark), Butyl rubber or Neoprene. Where the synthetic rubber selected will readily bond to the polyvinyl chloride, the cloth backing is coated on both surfaces with polyvinyl chloride ; otherwise, to aid bonding, the cloth backing of the supported polyvinyl chloride is coated on one side with a synthetic rubber of the same composition as the synthetic rubber layer. The hose may have an internal or external wire helix, or both, or an embedded helix. In an example, the hose comprises a layer of supported polyvinyl chloride, a wire helix embedded between two layers of synthetic rubber, an outer layer of supported polyvinyl chloride, and an external wire helix, the layers being helically wound with an overlap on a mandrel ; the completed hose is wrapped with a cloth saturated with water and placed in a steam chamber to bond the layers together.
