Abstract

965,282. Flexible tubes. UNI-TUBES Ltd. April 25, 1962 [Jan. 26, 1961], No. 3165/61. Heading F2P. Flexible tubing comprises a first layer 1 formed of flexible strip material, e.g. of polythene or polytetrafluoroethylene which may be reinforced with glass fibre cloth, with overlapping or abutting surfaces bonded together, the outer surface of that layer being ribbed, and a second layer 6 of flexible extrudable material, such as polyvinyl chloride, extruded over the first layer, the ribbing forming a key for the second layer. A strip 5 is wound helically and passed through a die for the application of the extruded layer 6. According to the Provisional Specification, the ribbing may run longitudinally, and the internal surface of the layer 1 may be smooth. The layer 1 may be formed of a strip disposed parallel to the axis of the tubing, adjacent strips abutting along the edges thereof, and narrower strips covering each butt joint and constituting longitudinal ribs.
