Abstract
784,699. Heating apparatus; non-conducting coverings. PIRELLI - GENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., and ARMAN, A. N. March 7, 1955 [March 23, 1954], No. 12329/56. Divided out of 784,698. Class 64(2) [Also in Group XXVIII] In flexible, substantially concentric piping suitable for conveying a fluid, e.g. a viscous liquid, through an inner pipe, while a second fluid, e.g. steam, can be supplied to the space between the pipes to control the temperature of the liquid, one of the pipes is helically corrugated and the other is of plain cylindrical form, the outer pipe being surrounded by thermal lagging material. As shown, a plain pipe 2 fits loosely in a corrugated pipe 1 covered by lagging 3 over which is a waterproof covering 4 formed by applying rubber, polythene or polyvinyl chloride extruded or applied as tapes the lappings of which are sealed with bitumen. A final protective covering comprising hessian impregnated with bitumen may be applied. The lagging may be built out externally to cylindrical form as shown or the coverings 3, 4 may be of uniform thickness to form externally corrugated piping. Each pipe may be made by bending a strip to cylindrical form and welding the edges to form a longitudinal seam. Specification 711,305 [Group XXXVI] also is referred to.
