Abstract

916,706. Flexible tubes. BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd., SIMON Ltd., HENRY, and HOWARTH, P. Sept. 15, 1961 [Sept. 27, 1960], No. 33200/60. Class 99(2). [Also in Group XXVI] A squeegee pump (see Group XXVI) has a curvec flexible tube pumping ele ment comprising an inner lining tube 10 of rubber or rubber-like plastic, a layer 11 of fabric reinforcement made of cotton or synthetic fibres impregnated with rubber or plastic and sec ured around the inner lining by a lap joint 12, and a strip of flexible abrasion resistant material 13, such as compounded rubber, secured directly, or indirectly, along each of the convexly and concavely curved sides, with flexing strips 15 of the same material as the inner lining tube between the strips. In assembling the tube, the inner lining is placed on a straight mandrel and externally coated with rubber cement. A sheet of reinforcement fabric is coated with rubber cement and, after the cement has dried, is tightly wrapped around the lining on the mandrel, the strips 13 are then rolled on to the fabric and the strips 15 secured between them. After initial curing on this mandrel, the tube is transferred for final curing to a mandrel having 90 degrees curvature centrally of its length.
