754,462. Measuring tension in ropes. AITKEN, R. L. Feb. 11, 1955 [Feb. 23, 1954], No. 5268/54. Class 106 (2). The rope 5 passing over fixed pulleys 2, 3 is deflected by a pulley 6 mounted on a pivoted arm 7 and the pressure exerted on the arm 7 is transmitted to a plunger 8 affixed to the moving end plate 12 of a liquid-filled metal bellows 11 communicating by a line 16 with a pressure gauge 17. To correct for temperature fluctuations a block 14 is attached to the end plate 12 so as to keep the liquid volume to a minimum, the bellows 11 having sufficient length to be readily extensible longitudinally. Preferably also the volume of the connection 16 is kept to a minimum.
