754,348. Toothed gearing; securing elements to shafts. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and HARNOTT. J. R. March 8, 1955 [March 10. 1954], No. 6919/54. Classes 80(1) and 80(2) A toothed gear which is subjected to an axial load component, such as a, bevel ring 12 Fig. 1, mounted upon a supporting hub member 13, is acted upon by an axially pre-stressed element 22 to impose upon the. gear in the vicinity of the teeth an axial load opposite to and exceeding the axial component of the tooth load. As shown the element 22 is of conical form engaging at its large end with a shoulder 21 of the' gear and at its smaller end a circlip or collar 23 on the gear hub. In Fig. 2, a bevel gear ring 23 is mounted upon a supporting ring 25 which is secured to shaft 27 by means of conical pre-stressed members 28, 29 acting on opposite sides of the ring 25 and secured by circlips or collars 32, 33 to the shaft.
