Abstract

754,277. Windscreen washers. WHATLEY, L. H. Feb. 10, 1955 [May 21, 1954; Nov. 9, 1954], Nos. 15066/54 and 32439/54. Class 138(1) A vehicle windscreen washer comprises a liquid reservoir, made of flexible material whereby it may be comprissed by hand, connected by tubing to a jet device formed so that liquid expelled therethrough will issue in a plurality of differently directed jets and the angle between the jets is adjustable. The reservoir 1, Fig. 1, made of polythene or the like plastic material. has a screw cap 4 integral with a threaded stem through which extends, to adjacent the position of the container, a flexible tube 7. The reservoir is mounted on the vehicle dashboard 3 by a bracket 2 secured to the cap 4 by a nut 5 screwed on the threaded stem: At its other end the tube 7 is fixed to the jet device 8 secured to the vehicle scuttle 9. Referring to Fig. 3, the device 8 comprises a hollow stem 11 having a shoulder 12 the stem being secured to the scuttle 9 as shown by nut 13, a spring washer 14 being disposed between the scuttle 9 and nut. A sealing washer 15 is disposed between the shoulder 12 and the scuttle 9. An unthreaded portion of the stem 11 has a diametrical bore 21 and rotatably carries two ring elements 16, 17 having interengaging conical surfaces 19. The element 17 is also formed with an annular chamber 20 to communicate with the bore 21. The conical surface of each element is provided with a radially disposed groove 22 and a cap nut 18 on the upper threaded end of the stem 11, locks the elements 16, 17 in adjusted positions, so that one groove 22 is directed to the drivers' portion of the windscreen 10, Fig. 1, and the other groove is directed to the passengers' side of the windscreen. A sealing gasket 15x is disposed between the element 16 and the shoulder 12. If desired two or more jet devices 8 may be connected to the reservoir 1.
