Abstract

887,832. Valves. TRICO-FOLBERTH Ltd. Dec. 3, 1958 [Dec. 18, 1957], No. 39362/57. Class 135. A fluid-control valve device comprises a valve 1 of the type used in motor vehicle tyres and consisting essentially of a hollow metal cylinder normally closed between its ends by a spring-loaded valve member (not shown), with an axially movable operating pin 12 lying wholly within one end of and coaxial with the cylinder, a part of the cylinder of the valve I being retained by one end 7 of a casing 3, 4 which has a side tube or port 5 and is made in a resilient material, e.g. a polyethylene plastic, the other end 11 of the casing being closed and forming a manual push-button which has an integral peg 10 adapted to contact the pin 12 on depression of this button to open the valve, the interior of the casing at 9 being spaced from the cylinder so that fluid may pass through the cylinder to or from the side tube. The device may be mounted on a dashboard 14 of a motor vehicle for operating, e.g. a windscreen washer by compressed air, using a spare tyre of the vehicle as a source of this air, and the spare tyre can be re-inflated through the valve on removal of the part 4 and the connection of an air pump hose to the exposed end of the valve cylinder. In an alternative embodiment the casing 3, 4 is made in one piece into which the end of the cylinder containing the pin 12 is screwed, the operating peg 10 extending into a space in the casing out of which the side tube 5 debouches.
