754,179. Drilling long holes; drills. SOC. DES FORGES & ATELIERS DU CREUSOT. Aug. 6, 1954 [Aug. 7, 1953], No. 22941/54. Class 83 (3). A horizontal long-hole coredrilling machine comprises a hollow tool-bar 2 on an axiallyfed carriage 5, means for supplying to the cutting-edges a liquid which forces the swarf back through the bar, and a cylindrical bar 11 which forms an axial extension of the core 10. which is formed during drilling. The bar 11 assists in ensuring a steady flow of swarf and liquid rearwardly to a container 13. The bar 11, which may be rotated, is held by a stationary support 12 and is supported within the tool-bar 2 by a spider 14. The tool-bar 2 is supported by a bracket 3 through which the liquid is supplied to passages 7, 9 in the tool-head. In a modification, the bar 11, Fig. 2, is partly surrounded by a sheath 16 which reduces the swarf passage 17 and increases the rate of liquid flow. While in these embodiments, the work is rotated, the tool-bar may be rotated instead. A rotary tube may be disposed within the stationary tool-bar, as in Specification 749,166 to assist in the removal of swarf.
