Abstract

805,714. Boring-heads; reamers. VOLTER, O. Aug. 29, 1956 [Sept. 9, 1955], No. 26381/56. Class 83 (3). A machine for facing valve seats 21 and boring the valve-guides 17 comprises a feed-bar 3 supporting the valve-guide boring-bar 4 and movable in the boring-head 2 to feed the facing-tool slide 19 obliquely to the axis of rotation of the boring-head. The bar 4 supports a cutter 16 and a reamer 15 which is guided by the apex 12 of the head 2, the free end of the bar 4 being guided by a sleeve 6. In operation, the head, on a spindle 1, is fed towards the work 5 until the apex 12 and the tool 18 are located within the valve passage 14, beyond the seating 21, and the bar 4 enters the sleeve and opens a valve 11 controlling the supply of lubricant from a reservoir 9 in the bracket 7 carrying the sleeve. The bar 3 feeds the boring-bar 4 during the boring and reaming operations, which are followed by the seat-trueing operation as the end of the bar 3 contacts the arm 23 of a sectorpinion 24 meshing with a rack 22 on the slide 19 which is moved outwardly against the influence of springs 25, 26.
