753,763. Shearing. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. May 4, 1954 [May 21, 1953], No. 12907/54. Class 83 (4). A bar shearing machine has an upper blade carrier 1 reciprocated in a vertical slide 20 in the frame by a lever 4 connected to a crank 5 and the upper blade carrier during its downward movement engages a stop 21 whereupon continued movement of the lever 4 lifts by means of a strut 10 the pivoted lower blade carrier 8 to effect shearing. The stop 21 is adjustable to suit the thickness of bar being sheared. Should the bar have an enlarged end the crank 5 is moved to lower dead centre to give maximum blade opening. Thereafter the crank 5 is oscillated with the upper blade carrier 1 in engagement with the stop 21 to shear the remainder of the bar into lengths. The Specification also describes a known machine in which the upper blade carrier is carried on a rod threaded into the frame and all the movement during shearing is made by the lower blade carrier, the strut 10 being in pin and slot connection with the lower blade carrier to allow the upper blade to be lifted for insertion of the bar.
