Abstract

674,404. Punching; stamping. WALESSTRIPPIT CORPORATION. Aug. 16, 1950, No. 20315/50. Class 83 (iv). In a punching, pressing or like machine-tool improved mechanism is provided for effecting a single oscillation of a working tool from a constantly - rotating shaft. An eccentric constantly reciprocates an idle ram 26 with serrated bottom 27 and slidable within a working ram 35 with serrated interior 37. A pin 30 on the idle ram engages a hole 40 in the ram 35. The two rams work in a casing 31 mounted as a self-contained unit on the goose-neck of the machine. A spring- urged pin 45 guided in the casing 31 passes through a cam slot 38 in the ram 35 and may enter a hole 41 therein. When the pin 45 engages the hole 41 the ram 36 is held stationary with the serrations of the rams in sliding contact. To actuate the tool on the working ram 35 the pin 45 is manually withdrawn from the hole 41 but retained in the cam slot 38. The ram 35 is released and drops by gravity and is rotated by the pin 45 until the serrations are out of alignment. The downward movement of the ram 26 then actuates the tool. On the upstroke of the ram 26 the pin 30 engages the top of the opening 40 and lifts the ram 35, the pin 40 rotating the ram 35 until the serrations are in alignment. At the top of the stroke the pin 45 engages the hole 41 to hold the working ram inoperative. In modifications to prevent wear on the serrations a two-armed lever on the working plunger is associated with the pin 45 to ensure complete engagement of the serrations for the working stroke.
