Abstract

Mixtures of silicone oils and the products described in Specification 366,916, obtained by reacting ethionic acid or its anhydride, or a hydroxylated or halogenated derivative of ethane sulphonic acid with a higher fatty acid or derivative thereof, are employed in the form of aqueous emulsions as mould release agents in the moulding of plastics and rubber articles. Examples describe mixtures and emulsions of (1) 2-3 parts silicone oil and 1 part of the reaction product of oleic acid chloride and b -hydroxy ethane sulphonic acid; (2) 35 parts of a 40 per cent aqueous emulsion of a silicone oil and 7 parts of the reaction products of oleic acid chloride and the sodium salt of b -hydroxy ethane sulphonic acid; (3) as in (2) but using the reaction product of coconut oil and ethionic acid; (4) as in (2) but using the reaction product of a mixture of fatty acids having 6-12 carbon atoms and the sodium salt of hydroxyethane sulphonic acid; (5) as in (2) but using the reaction product of the sodium salt of ricinoleic acid and the sodium salt of chloroethane sulphonic acid.ALSO:Mixtures of silicone oils and the products described in Specification 366,916 [Group IV] are used in aqueous emulsion as mould release agents in the moulding of plastic and rubber articles. The said products are obtained by reacting ethionic acid or its anhydride or a hydroxylated or halogenated derivative of ethane sulphonic acid with a higher fatty acid or derivative thereof. In examples 1 part of a said product according to Specification 366,916 [Group IV] is mixed with up to seven parts silicone oil and emulsions formed which may be diluted to 0.5 to 1 per cent concentration.
