Abstract

752,590. Waveguide impedance networks. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 21, 1954 [April 6, 1954], No. 10098/54. Class 40 (8). Two input terminals A, D are connected by waveguides 1, 2 of equal physical length to two output terminals B, C, the waveguides being coupled at spaced points by couplers 3, 4 whereby the energy from one or both of the inputs can be distributed in a desired manner between the outputs by varying the relative electrical length of the guides between the couplers. This variation may be accomplished by means of an adjustable dielectric block 5 in one of the guides. The energy appearing at either output terminal depends upon the relative phase of the waves transmitted by the two alternative paths provided between each input and each output terminal. The couplers may be 3 db. slotted directional couplers, single-slot E- or H-plane couplers, Magic Tee's or " rat races ". One of the outputs may be terminated by a dummy load so that the device could be used as an attenuator. The electrical lengths of both paths may be varied differentially, e.g. by means of a pair of phase-shifters. Specifications 619,521 and 673,957, [both in Group XL (c)], are referred to.
