Abstract
752,363. Testing circuit breakers photoelectrically. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-GES. Feb. 22, 1954 [Feb. 23, 1953], No. 5128/54. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XXXVI] In tests on high voltage and power circuit breakers in which high potential is applied to the breaker contacts by breakdown of the gap between auxiliary series electrodes and in which the breakdown between the electrodes is initiated by deforming the field between by means of a still further electrode, a photo-electric receiver in the high-voltage circuit responds to a light flash produced by a low-voltage source to produce a pulse between one of the electrodes and the auxiliary electrode to initiate the auxiliary discharge. As shown a gas discharge tube B in a low-voltage circuit is triggered by means of a starting electrode Z. The flash thus produced is received by a photo-cell E which triggers a discharge tube T in series with the primary of impulse transformer Ti through which condenser Cz discharges, thus producing the necessary voltage pulse at the auxiliary electrode H. The discharge tube T may be of the cold cathode type.
