Abstract

830,085. Charging and discharging condensers. CHROMATIC TELEVISION LABORATORIES Inc. July 30, 1956 [Aug. 2, 1955], No. 23452/56. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] Fig. 1 shows a circuit in which tubes V1 ... V4 are connected in bridge formation with capacitor C across one diagonal and battery 2 across the other. The tubes are normally biased to cut-off but when a signal is applied to transformer 18 tubes V1, V4 conduct to charge capacitor C from source 2 in one direction. If the signal is now removed from transformer 18 and applied to transformer 20 tubes V2, V3 conduct so that the capacitor C discharges and then re-charges in the opposite direction. If signals are applied simultaneously to transformers 18 and 20 all the tubes conduct so that capacitor C is discharged. By this means a waveform as shown in 5J is generated across capacitor C. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the tubes V1 ... V4 are each connected in a blocking oscillator circuit so that when triggered by an external signal each tube generates a short pulse of anode current to charge the capacitor C. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the tubes V1 ... V4 are connected in free-running oscillator circuit where the external signals serve only to synchronize them. In a further modification the curbed pulse generator is used to switch the beam of a cathode-ray tube in a colour television receiving system (see Group XL (c)).
