Abstract

573,504. Ignition systems. PLESSEY CO., Ltd., and STUBBS, H. V. G. July 19, 1943, No. 11703. [Class 7 (iv)] In a high-frequency ignition system, a magneto primary A has the usual contact breaker Band condenser C and the secondary D is connected in series with a high-frequency transformer primary :E associated with a condenser G and spark gap F, and an auxiliary condenser K shunted by a resistance L is provided to absorb excess energy at high speeds. In some cases, the auxiliary condenser and shunt resistance may be inserted between the magneto secondary D and the condenser G. The resistance L may be wound on a ceramic tube M with terminal caps N at each end. A heat-dissipating metallic housing P supports the resistance and condenser K and is electrically-connected to one terminal of each of these components. For sparking frequencies up to 400 per second, the auxiliary and storage condensers may have respective capacities of .10ÁF and .01ÁF with a resistance of 30,000 ohms and breakdown voltage of 2000.
