Abstract
7 - Hydroxy - 5 - methyl - 1:2:3:4:6 - pentazaindene is prepared by the gradual addition of acetic acid to an aqueous solution of 4:5-diamino - 6 - hydroxy - 2 - methylpyrimidine sulphate, sodium nitrite, and sodium hydroxide. 7 - Amino - 5 - carboxymethylmercapto - 1:2:3:4:6-pentazaindene is similarly prepared. 4:5 - Diamino - 6 - hydroxy - 2 - methylpyrimidine sulphate is prepared by reducing 4 - amino - 5 - nitroso - 6 - hydroxy - 2 - methylpyrimidine with sodium hydrosulphite and adding sulphuric acid. 4 - Amino - 5 - nitroso - 6 - hydroxy - 2 - methylpyrimidine is prepared by adding sodium nitrite and then sulphuric acid to an aqueous suspension of 4-amino-6-hydroxy-2-methylpyrimidine, itself prepared by refluxing together a mixture of acetamidine hydrochloride, ethanol, ethyl cyanacetate, and sodium ethoxide.
