I Mechanism for actuating a sliding vehicle window comprises a window supporting arm 3 pivoted at 5 to a mounting plate 14 which carries an arcuate rack 4 whose centre of curvature is at the pivot axis 5 and which has notches 6 formed on either the outer convex edge the rack, or as shown, on the inner convex edge, the rack being engaged by two pins 8 on a pin wheel 7 which is rotatable by a handle, not shown, or by power driven mechanism. The edges of each notch may be straight and arranged parallel with, or inclined to, a radial line passing through the centre of each notch and the axis 5. If the edges are inclined they may be curved as shown. The wheel 7 comprises a pair of similar co-axial discs 7a, 7b joined by the equi-spaced pins 8 having, if desired, rollers mounted on them. The disc 7a, carrying the spindle 10 of an actuating handle, or power driven gear wheel, is supported in a bearing plate 11 having tongue and key hole slot engagement with the plate 14, the disc 7b being supported in a bearing in a pressed out part of the plate 14. The window is balanced by a spring 19.
