Abstract

1370298 Friction gearing INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 29 Oct 1971 [7 Aug 1970] 38269/70 Heading F2Q [Also in Division G2] In a reflectometer, a reflector 10 to be tested is mounted on a table 13 which is adapted to be rotated through half the angle through which a turntable 16, carrying a detector 15, is rotated, the table 13 and turntable 16 being interconnected by friction epicyclic gearing. Three rollers 20 are mounted on a disc 21 integral with the table 13, and engage opposed tracks 19, 23 on the turntable 16 and a fixed base 24. The turntable 16 is driven by a friction wheel 18 engaging the periphery of the turntable. The reflector 10 is carried by a pivoted member 12 which may be lifted by a push-rod 31 to swing the reflector 10 out of the path of the beam. In another embodiment, a plate 43 carries an internallyreflecting prism 44 on which a beam from a laser 40 falls. A plate 45 is rotatably mounted with respect to the plate 43 and carries a pendulum weight W. A support 46 is located between the plates 43, 45 and carries rollers 47 which engage the plates and a semicircular prism 48 at its centre. The plate 43 is mounted on a bearing 42 so that it always takes up a position in a vertical plane.
