Abstract
366,687. Friction pivots. PARKES, S. R., Pretoria Works, New Road, Willenhall, Staffordshire. Jan. 10, 1931, No. 897. [Class 65 (ii).] In a pivot for horizontally pivoted windows and the like, of the type in which members fixed to the window and the frame are spring-pressed into frictional contact to retain the window in any position, one of these members is a block slid-' able axially in one of the fixing plates while the other member is constituted by the other fixing plate. In the arrangement shown in sectional plan in Fig. 3, the fixing plate 1 on the frame carries the pin 2, which bears in a friction block 3 carried by the other fixing plate 7 on the window. The block 3 is shaped so as not to be rotatable in the plate 7, but is free to slide in the direction of the pivot axis, being forced against the plate 1 by the head of the pivot pin under the action of a spring 4. The spring bears against a washer 5 held by a peg 6, and the head of the pin may be replaced by a similar arrangement. The face of the washer is partly pierced to form two projections between which the peg 6 is located. The fixing plates may be extended to bring the pivot axis in front of the window, and one or both may have extensions at right-angles for face fixing.
