Abstract

696,481. Change-speed gearing. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 27, 1951 [March 31, 1950], No. 8062/50. Class 80 (ii). Change-speed gearing, shown as applied to a gramophone, comprises a driving friction member 5, on the spindle of a constant speed electric motor, either engaging directly with a main idler wheel 7 to drive the gramophone turntable 2, or alternatively engaging with the main idler wheel through secondary wheels 20, 14 or 21, 15, the secondary wheels being mounted on a lever 11 rotatable about the axis of the motor shaft. The main idler 7 is mounted on an arm 29 having slotted engagement with a pin 31 mounted on the gramophone base-plate so as to be urged into engagement with the turntable 2, driving member 5 &c. by a spring 28, and the secondary wheels 20, 21 are mounted on rods 24, 25 slidable in lugs on the lever 11 and urged by springs 24<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>1</SP> to engage these wheels with the driving member 5 and the other secondary wheels 14, 15 respectively. The lever 11 is retained in position by a click device 34, and may be operated directly by hand, or by an arm device designed to give a slow change between the various ratios, or by means for automatically bringing into operation pick-ups suited to the different speeds of the turntable.
