Abstract
751,251. Thermionic valves; electrode materials. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 17, 1954 [March 20, 1953], No. 7763/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). A valve for very low-voltage operation has the grid coated with a material of higher work function than the grid material and the anode coated with a material of lower work function than the anode material. The resulting contact potentials give inherent negative bias to the grid, which can thus be worked without external bias; and an increased effective anode voltage, so that the anode supply can be less (e.g. 6 volts). The grid may be molybdenum coated with gold or platinum, while the anode may be nickel, nickel-clad iron, or aluminiumclad iron, coated with barium or caesium. The valve is preferably a tetrode as no secondaryemission dip can occur at such low voltages. Characteristic curves are given.
