Class 87(2) [Also in Group XVII] In the forming in situ of a sealing wad in a crown closure S the closure cap is placed on a platen 15 heated by a gas burner 16 and a quantity 17 of a synthetic resin, rubber compound or other elastomer placed in the cap, a heated punch 20 pressing the material into shape and causing adhesion to the cap while a rib 24 on the punch contacts surface 12 on the cap to confine the material between the punch and the cap during compression and until the wad has been shaped, when the punch is withdrawn.
