Closures of this type usually comprise three parts, that is a metallic cap or crown, having a corrugated iang'e to be locked to the exterior of the bottle neck, a sealingr disk or packing of cork or the like, and a thin disk of impervious binding material, usually fusible, interposed between the metallic cap and the sealing disk. `The purpose of this interposed impervious disk is to unite the packing of,cork or the like Y with the metallic cap', and at the same time to prevent the bottled liquids from taint by contact with the cap and the incident corrosion of the metal.l In manufacturing these closures the interposed impervious disk is heated to properly fuse the saine, and the assembled closures subjected to pressure- While the binding medium is liardei'iiiiir, cooling devices being usually applied. while the hardening takes place. By applying the adhesive material tothe caps in their upright positions, all of the samewill receive the same quantity. The cap is then transported step by step until itiegisters in an inverted position with the aperture 28 in the top of the cylinder 2?), then in this position, a sealing disk or packingof cork or the likeis placed into 'said cap. For this purpose an assemblingplunger 72 is arranged above the opening 28,'said plunger being slidably mounted'in vertical guides 73, and attached to the horizontal portion 7 t of an actuating rod 75, which is adapted to attached to a stationary part-of the machinel rod 77 of an eccentric 78, which is keyed, oi' otherwise fastened, to the driving shaft 35, and more particularly in such a manner that the assembling plunger 7 2 will move down- Ward when the plate member 42 moves upin the .cylinder 23 is at rest. What I claim 'is:- i l. In a machine for the manufacture of bottle closures oi' the cap variety, the combination with means for applying adhesive material to the inner face of the head of the metallic cap, means for' depositing a sealing disk into the cap, and means f-or conveying the metallic cap in succession to the elements mentioned and ior positioning the same with its open end downward into registering position with the adhesive material applying means, said depositing means servingz,r at the saine time to unite the disk with the cap.

In a machine for bottle closures of `the cap variety, the combination with means for applying adhesive material to the inner face of the head of the metallic cap, means for depositing a sealing disk into the cap, and a single rotary means for 4conveying the metallic cap in succession to the elements mentioned and for position ing the same with its open end downward into registering position with the adhesive material applying means, said deposit-ing ineansservmg at the same time to unite disk with the cap. ,4,

A mechanism for applying adhesive material to the inner faces of the metallic caps of bottle closures, comprisinv' a hollow closed member provided with a llurality of perforations o in the outer ends of said pinsto project through said perforations, and means for limiting the out-ward movement of said pins.
