Abstract
751,055. Rotary pumps. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 3. 1954 [June 22, 1953], No. 16384/54. Class 110(2) In a rotary pump having co-operating lobed or toothed gears at least one of the gears is divided in a plane normal to its axis of rotation into two parts of different thickness one of which is fixed on a shaft and the other rotatable on the shaft. Fig. 9 shows a gear pump with the driving gear 45 divided into a part 46 secured to and driven by a shaft 49 and a part 47 freely rotatable on the shaft 49 so that manufacturing tolerances between the gear teeth are absorbed and a more uniform non-pulsating delivery from the pump obtained. The driven gear 44 may be divided into two parts. The parts of a divided gear are of different thickness and arranged so that a thick part of one gear meshes with a thin part of the other gear and only one of the parts of the divided gear is driven by a shaft. Rotary pumps of the n and n+1 lobes type are described having their gears and gear rings divided and having ball thrust bearings for the driving shafts.
