750,646. Hydraulic brakes. TEVES, H., and TEVES, E. A., [trading as TEVES MASCHINEN - UND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM.-GES., A.]. Feb. 24, 1954 [March 11, 1953], No. 5476/54. Class 103 (1). The invention resides in a coupling for the hydraulic braking systems of tractor-trailer vehicles, in which each vehicle fluid system includes a working cylinder, i.e. cylinder 1 on the tractor vehicle, cylinder 11 on the trailer vehicle, formed as a coupling head and a piston working in each cylinder, the arrangement being such that when the vehicles are coupled and collar 12 rigidly connects the two cylinders, the tractor piston 2, under the influence of hydraulic pressure supplied via connection 5, is adapted to act mechanically on the trailer piston 10, through spigot 8 of piston 2 and spigot 9 of piston 10, to cause the trailer brakes to be applied via connection 16; and is characterised in that the coupling heads when joined together act as a pressure converter in that the two pistons 2 and 10 are of different diameters so as to match the braking force of the tractor to that of the trailer.
