749,648. Planing. ARNOLD, F. Sept. 3, 1953, No. 24418/53. Class 83 (3). A planing machine comprises a tool 5 of trapezoidal or triangular section which cuts in both directions of movement, the cutting positions of the tool being adjustable by a single screwed adjusting member 4 and the sum of the clearance angles being adjustable by a drum 10 screwing into the member. The tool 5 is clamped in its holder 13 by a screw 1. The holder carries a ball-headed rod 16 confined between the member 4 and the drum 10. A second tool 9 is carried on a flap 6 which may be free to swing, or actuated positively in time with the tool 5 by a yoke 11 and a releasable hook 12. The tool 9 is single-edged and is clamped by a bell-shaped member 8.
