695,845. Cutting up wood. INTERWOOD AKT.-GES. Aug. 19, 1948 [Aug. 22, 1947; Aug. 11, 1948], No. 21498/51. Divided out of 658,524. Drawings to Specification. Class 145 (i). The subject-matter of this Specification is substantially 'the same as that described in Specification 658,524 but the claims differ in that they relate to a device for producing the shavings used in the method of that Specification comprising at least one rotating cutting tool, in which the cutting blades move, in cutting through the wood piece, along a circular path' whose centre is at the axis of rotation of the tool, said tool or tools being adapted to cut a piece of wood into shavings of predetermined elongated shape and substantially uniform size, the shavings being sufficiently short to enable a mass of them to be pourable, and guide means for feeding a wood piece relative to said tool or tools in such a manner that the direction of length of the shavings produced is substantially coincident with the direction of the grain of the wood. The guide means may comprise two supporting structures having supporting surfaces carried at a distance equal to the thickness of wood shaving desired, and said structures being movable in such manner as to place either surface at a level above that of the other, depending on the direction of feed. In a modification, the tool has a combined peeling and chiselling action, the tool being similar to a rotary saw and having cutting teeth each of which has two cutting edges disposed at an angle to one another and proceeding from a point of junction of the edges one in a direction to cut with a peeling action and the other in a direction to cut with a chiselling action.
