Abstract

Solid wood fibre materials are obtained by disintegrating a piece of wood by the action of a cutting tool into elongated shavings of pre-determined shape, the shavings being sufficiently short to render the mass freely pourable, and also mainly longitudinal, and then disposing the shavings promiscously and forming a solid mass with a binder. The shavings may be prepared by the chiselling, cutting or sawing processes described in Group XXIII to produce particles as thin as 0.1 mm. The binding agent may be artificial resins, natural resins, glues, mineral binders, or lignin in the form of cellulose slime, fibre slime, or spent sulphite liquor.
