Abstract
A wood fibre material resembling raw cotton which can be used in the manufacture of plastic compositions is produced from mechanically disintegrated raw wood fibres by removing therefrom fibre mucilage and fibre fragments by washing, and drying the fibres without the application of pressure; long fibres and fibre bundles should be preserved. The resulting material is a loose fibrous mass which can be readily disintegrated into its individual fibres, e.g. by carding, by simply soaking in water, or by disintegrating dry and adding water repelling liquids such as paraffin solutions or alcoholic solutions of an artificial resin. The material may be mixed with pulverized binding materials which solidify on wetting, e.g. gypsum or pulverized magnesite.ALSO:A wood fibre material resembling raw cotton which can be used as litter is produced from mechanically disintegrated raw wood fibres by removing therefrom fibre mucilage and fibre fragments by washing, and drying the fibres without the application of pressure; long fibres and fibre bundles should be preserved. The resulting material is a loose fibrous mass which can be readily disintegrated into its individual fibres, e.g. by carding, by simply soaking in water, or by disintegrating dry and adding water repelling liquids such as paraffin solutions or alcoholic solutions of an artificial resin.
