Abstract

749,394. Heating paint, cellulose &c. electrically. HAMILTON, W. R., and PHILLIPS, K. J. Aug. 18, 1954 [Sept. 26, 1953], No. 26542/53. Class 39(3). Apparatus for electrically heating cellulose, paint and like compositions which require to be sprayed hot comprises a casing 1 having a lower part provided with an immersion heater 6 for heating a liquid such as water, containers 9 for the composition being supported on a perforated or slotted tray 3 secured by spring clips 12. A thermostat 7 is brazed between two arms of the heater and its setting is adjustable by means of a knob 19 connected by a universal joint to a micro-switch 16. Neon indicating lamps 29, 30 respectively indicate whether the thermostat and current supply are on or off and provision is made for receiving a thermometer in the lower part of the casing. A handle 34 includes a loop portion 37 for carrying a cup 38 by which the viscosity of the composition to be heated is assessed, adjustment of the thermostat then being made to produce the desired consistency of the composition. A lid 2 may be reversed from the position shown to substantially seal the casing while the liquid in it is being brought up to the temperature required. With the lid fitted as shown however, pressure build up in the casing is avoided while the composition is being further heated. The temperature adjusting knob may have a push-pull movement for switching the current supply on and off.
