[Class 39(iii)] [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVII] The pressure in an electrically-heated pressure cooker is maintained constant by a switch, responsive to pressure in the cooker, controlling the energisation of the heater. A cylindrical pressure cooker container 1 having' a handle of insulating material 12 and a cover 2, which may be sealed in known manner, is removable from a base 3 containing a helical heating resistance 5 mounted in spiral grooves 6. A chamber 15 between the handle and the container houses a flexible diaphragm 16, responsive to pressure in the container, which maintains constant pressure within the container by controlling, through a lever 25, a switch 20 in the circuit between heater 5 and a supply plug 35 on the base. Also mounted in chamber 15 is a bimetallic strip 36 responsive to the temperature of the container which also controls switch 20 to maintain constant temperature should the pressure control system fail or if it is desired to operate the cooker unsealed. Connection between switch 20 and the base is by plug and socket 31, 32. A pressure setting knob 29 permits adjustment of spring bias on diaphragm 16 and a temperature setting knob 40 permits adjustment of spring bias on bimetallic strip 36. The cooker is also safeguarded against excessive pressure by a blow-off vent 43.
