Abstract

749,239. Cathode-ray tubes. PYE, Ltd. Dec. 2, 1953 [Dec. 2, 1952], No. 10460/55. Divided out of 749,183, [Group XL (b)]. Class 39 (1). [Also in Groups XL (b) and XL (c)] In a television receiver cabinet the screen end of the cathode-ray tube is received in a frame 10 and the tube is held in position by a strut 14 having an aperture 14a through which the neck of the tube passes, the portion of the strut surrounding the aperture pressing on the bulb portion of the tube so that the bulb is held under compression between the strut and frame without the weight of the tube being supported by the neck. The strut is secured to side plates 15 provided with flanges 15a received in slots 16 in the frame. Lugs 17 fitting into holes 18 locate the side plates in position and the assembly is secured within the cabinet by wood screws passing through holes 15c into the side walls. The deflecting coils, focusing magnets and centring magnets are carried by a tubular member 25 (illustrated in detail in Fig. 4, not shown) formed with a flange 25a shaped to engage a portion 14b of the strut which is formed to a spherical or conical shape. The flange 25a is secured to portion 14b by screws 26 carrying nuts and washers (not shown) and the arrangement is such that member 25 may be rocked relative to strut 14, similar to a ball- and-socket joint, to achieve a desired alignment between the deflecting coils &c. and the tube neck. Two focusing magnets are provided carried by parts 29, 29a of member 25 interengaged for relative axial displacement by handle 25.
