Abstract

615,553. Magnets. KOLSTER-BRANDES Ltd., and LOCK, C. E. Feb. 27, 1946, No. 6138. [Class 35] [Also in Group XL (a)] An adjustable focusing device for a cathoderay tube consists of an annular permanent magnet 1 clamped between front and back plates 2 and 3 of magnetizable material by means of screws 4 (Fig. 2) of non-magnetic material, e.g. brass, and a sleeve 6 of magnetizable material provided with a knurled flange 7, screwed through the centre of the back plate 3, forming together with the front plate 2 the polepieces of the magnet. The sleeve is locked in position by means such as a spring 8. The device is supported by a resilient e.g. rubber ring 11 (Fig. 1) supported by a fixed plate 14. The ring is secured to the plate by means such as three mushroom-like projections 13 whose heads are forced through corresponding holes in the plate. Screws 15 extend through both ring and plate into threaded holes in the front plate 2, whereby the focus shift can be adjusted. The device is mounted on the neck 20 of the cathode-ray tube by a rubber bush 10. Specification 459,860 is referred to.
