748,622. Copy - turning; lathe details. WERNER, H., and WERNER, H. H. Sept. 15, 1953 [Sept. 15, 1952], No. 25442/53. Class 83 (3). A lathe comprises a bed 10, Fig. 2, with saddle 11 having crossslide 13, Fig. 6, supporting a swivel plate 116 on which an intermediate slide 119 is slidable on guides 17. Mounted on slide 119 is a copying slide 24 slidable, at an acute angle to guides 17, by fluidpressure under the control of a tracer on slide 24 engaging a template 25 on plate 116. For copy-turning, saddle 11, slide 13 and plate 116 are fixed and slide 119 is fed by a screwed spindle 18 connected by disengageable drive-means to the feed transmission of the lathe, the tracer actuating a slide-valve controlling pressure fluid acting on a piston and cylinder of slide 24. Slide 119 may be manually fed by a handle on spindle 18, and slide 24 supports a tool-slide 27 adjustable by handle 28. Plate 116 may be braced by blocks 23 and fixed to slide 13 in any angular position, and is exchangeable for a swivel plate 16, Fig. 1, having compound-slides 19, 20 for manual turning. In a modification, copying-slide 24 has compound-slides 30, 30a, supporting a tool post 31 and operable by screwed rods 29, 32, respectively. For manual turning, slide 24 is fixed to slide 119, and saddle 11, slide 13 and plate 116 remain fixed.
