Abstract
748,286. Rotary switches. TOK ELECTRICAL & INDUSTRIAL MECHANISMS, Ltd., and PHILPOTT, S. F. Aug. 13, 1954 [May 15, 1953], No. 13726/53. Class 38(5) A switch for controlling two heating elements comprises a cam which operates spring contacts by means of its periphery and by a surface formed on one of its faces. As shown, the cam 12 has two peripheral cam surfaces co-operating respectively with spring contact blades 30, 31 having contacts 32, 33 co - operating with fixed contacts 34, 35 connected to terminals 36, 37. The lower face of the cam has a projection (Fig. 3, not shown) cooperating with two spring contact blades 21, 22 co-operating with fixed contacts connected to terminals 26, 26, the blades 21, 22 both being connected to a terminal 28. The cam has a square portion co-operating with two flat springs 19 to locate the cam in each of its four positions. These positions are (1) "off" in which all contacts are open, (2) "low", in which blades 22, 30 are closed to connect the heater elements in series, (3) "medium", in which blades 30, 31 are closed to connect one heater in circuit, and (4) "high", in which blades 21, 30 and 31 are closed to connect the heaters in parallel. Instead of being formed as a single element, the cam may be built up of a number of relatively-adjustable members (Figs. 4 to 8, not shown). If desired the blade 30 and terminal 36 may be omitted.
