Abstract

748,028. Punching. DAVIS SHEET METAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and DAVIS, T. Jan. 26, 1954 [March 23, 1953], No. 7928/53. Class 83 (4). A metal sheet punching device consists of a die 1 located by a bolster 12, a punch 5 and a bolt 15 passing through apertures in the punch and bolster, the punching being effected by tightening a nut 16 on the bolt 15. The recess 13 in the bolster 12 is of larger diameter than the punch 5 to facilitate removal of the blank. The punch 5 has V-shaped recesses in the cutting edge and a shank of reduced diameter so that the sheet 18 can easily be stripped from the device when a hole is punched. Alternatively, the cutting face of the punch 5 may be inclined or curved or formed with a cylindrical recess symmetrical about a diameter. The bolster 12 may be secured to the bolt 15 and may fit outside of the die 1 in which case the die is counterbored to receive the blank. The punch and die may be shaped to cut non- circular holes.
