Abstract

1,209,800. Strippers. KAUFMANN TOOL & ENG. CORP. 11 Dec., 1968 [21Dec., 1967], No. 58970/68. Heading B3W. A spring stripper for assembly with, e.g. a punch 20 or for independent use comprises a sleeve 24 of synthetic rubber-like material and a cap 28 of material similar but of greater hardness than that of the sleeve.. The preferred range of hardness for the sleeve is 75-98 Shore A and for the cap 100-130 Shore A. Reinforcing glass fibres are substantially uniformly distributed in the cap. The sleeve forms a friction fit with the punch shank 20b and the cap is a press-fit with the sleeve. The edge 28c is continuously or intermittently chamfered to facilitate the press-fit and centering of the parts. The cap is preferably formed with a notch in the inner face of the part 28a for guiding a drill used to form the hole 30. Alternatively the hole is formed by piercing, or machining. The cap and sleeve are assembled in a vice, or a press or by means of a stroke of a ram or punch with which it is associated. When the stripper is used independently of a punch the cap is imperforate, Fig. 5. A second cap, perforated for passage of a locating pin such as 34, may be mounted on the other end of the sleeve.
