Abstract

A composition comprises a maleic-anhydride modified olefinic elastomer, polychloroprene and a rosin acid. Specified elastomers are natural rubber, butadiene - acrylonitrile, butadiene - styrene and butadiene-methyl methacrylate copolymers. Specified rosin acids are abietic acid, di- or tetra-hydroabietic acid, disproportionated abietic acid, isomerized rosin and hydrogenated rosin. It is preferred that 100 parts of a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer are used, with 10 to 65 parts polychloroprene and 75 to 150 parts rosin acid. A solvent such as toluene, methyl ethyl ketone, their mixture, an ester, high flash naphtha and methyl isobutyl ketone may be present, preferably so as to produce a composition containing from 10-40 per cent of solids. Pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide, zinc chromate, carbon black and precipitated hydrated silica or calcium silicate may also be present. The composition is particularly adapted for the bonding of films of polyperfluorovinyl chloride to metals.ALSO:A composition comprises maleic-anhydride modified natural rubber polychloroprene and a rosin acid. Specified rosin acids are abietic acid, di-, or tetrahydro-abietic acid, disproportionated abietic acid, isomerized rosin and hydrogenated rosin. A solvent such as a mixture of toluene and methyl ethyl ketone, or an ester, high flash naphtha or methyl isobutyl ketone may be present. Pigments such as titanium dioxide, zinc chromate, carbon black and precipitated hydrated silica or calcium silicate may also be present. The composition is particularly suited for the bonding of polyperfluorovinyl chloride to metal.
