Abstract

A priming coat for a metal foil to which an adhesive is to be applied comprises 120 parts by weight of resinous pitch, 126 parts of zinc oxide, 230 parts of reclaimed rubber, and 50 parts of balata. A modified composition comprises 25 per cent of resinous pitch, 25 per cent of zinc oxide, and 50 per cent of reclaimed rubber. A further modification comprises 20 per cent of rosin, 30 per cent of Cumar resin, and 50 per cent of reclaimed rubber. The compositions are applied mixed with toluene as solvent. The rubber in the compositions may in some cases be replaced by balata.
