Abstract

747,181. Metal-vapour discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 26, 1953 [Jan. 30, 1952], No. 2177/53. Class 39 (1). To equalize the magnetic fields within a mercury-pool device due to the current in the cathode leads, these are formed of a number of parallel conductors 8, Fig. 1, equally spaced in a circle about the axis of the non-magnetic metal envelope portion 1. Cathode current is led by conductors 12, 13 to lower bus-bar 10 and taken off from upper bus-bar 9, after flowing equally through the four conductors 8. If the cathode is insulated from the envelope, the bus-bars 9, 10 are both insulated from the envelope; if not, only bus-bar 9 is. In another form the conductors 8, Fig. 3, start from the top of the metal envelope 1 and surround the anode seal 5, 6, 7; bus-bar 10 is electrically in contact with envelope 1.
