[Class 36] An electrical insulator which is especially applicable to electrical dust precipitators used in connection with mobile gas producers, is constructed with electrical heating coils 10 which are disposed in the cavity between the quartz tubes 1, 2 of the insulator. The device is especially applicable to dust precipitators as in Specification 562,043, [Group XL]. As applied to a lead-in type of insulator, Fig. 1, the outer tube 1 is formed in two parts which are connected by an intermediate part 6 having a flange 11 which is screwed to a ring 22 welded to the wall 12 of the precipitator which is apertured to receive the insulator. The coil 10 is wound round a heat-insulating compound 15 on the tube 2, and is connected by leads 9 and insulated terminals to a source of low power current. A rod 5 which may be a conductor or non-conductor connects caps 3, 4 which hold the parts of the insulator together with the aid of nuts 16, 17. The nut 17 holds in place the plate 18 to which the electrodes of the precipitator are connected, current of high tension being supplied by the rod 5 or otherwise. In the modification, Fig. 2, two heating coils 10 are used, arranged in parallel, and the securing flange 11 is on the upper side of the intermediate part 6 and is connected by screws to a plate 20 fixed in the casing of the precipitator. The electrode wires are secured to an upper plate 21. In a further modification, which is of pedestal form, the construction is substantially the same as in Fig. 2 with the part of the insulator below the fitting 6 omitted.
